Professional Photographers Make the Right Weather–Vancouver Family Photography
by snow on Jun.16, 2010, under blog
Vancouver is notorious for its wet climate. Although my portrait sessions have been blessed with good weather most of the times, there are the occassional times when it definitely rains cats and dogs and donkeys and dolphins throughout the session. My last session with the M family was sure the case.
It was a precious opportunity for a three-generation family portrait, as K’s parents were visiting from out of town. We were quite worried about the weather for the whole week. However, due to the schedule constraints of multiple parties, that particular Saturday morning was the only option.
When the morning arrived, there was no point in worrying because the rain clearly had no plan to subside. This is where adequate planning and experiences came in handy: I know of a spot where a large piece of clearing is covered with foliage. That means, even if it rained hard, we could still keep relatively dry.
Everyone got a bit damp at the end of the session–look at the cute little T’s shoes! However, no one got wet or sick. On top of that? The lush green is enhanced by the rain to a degree of surreal saturation. There are pros and cons with any weather. As on-location professional photographers, we just learn to deal with the weather variants–that is, before someone invents a remote control for the sky.
