Life in the Studio…
by snow on Aug.23, 2011, under blog
1. Shower is first thing in order as soon as I arrive at the studio. Things may be different when autumn hits Hong Kong.
2. I work very hard in the studio, always sweating through my shirt–the brand-new air-conditioner decided not to work during the hottest month of the year!
3. It’s wonderful to be able spread out the paintings to dry without needing to move them constantly.
4. Right now I rely on my iphone for all communication needs from the studio.
5. I usually listen to RTHK Radio 2/Radio 4 or an audio book when I work in the studio. Right now I’m listening to A Portrait of a Young Man as an Artist by James Joyce. My first Joyce.

My friendly dehumidifier guarding my artworks.
6. Due to the humidity in Hong Kong, I acquired a dehumidifier to protect my works.

My new paint palette!
7. When I’m not drawing or painting, I read art books or magazines. Right now I’m brushing up on art auctions and contemporary Chinese artists. There is so much talent in the Mainland. Chen Ke is an artist who also works in the style of Pop Surrealism, yet her works are sold for millions RMB already.
8. It’s difficult to pinpoint my favourite thing in the studio. If I really have to choose, it would be the bright yellow sink cabinet in the bathroom.

My yellow sink cabinet in the bathroom!
9. I love how nice the guards are in the building. During office hours, they open the door and push the elevator button for you.
10. The elevator is quite slow in the building. I usually have time to check if I have my keys, my phone, close the front door and fix my hair before the elevator arrives.

11. I’m already falling in love with the neighbourhood Shau Kei Wan. I’m becoming regular patrons of a few eateries right downstairs. I love taking my environmentally-friendly metal container to buy wonton noodles downstairs. It reminds me of the beautiful scene in In the Mood of Love (Watch the clip here!)
12. Last but not the least, I have started inviting people to hang out in the studio. If you would like to see the studio, please contact me for an appointment! If you don’t have time, browse through the online galleries or online shop!

Intricate, delicate and very cute drawings and paintings by Chinese Canadian artist Michelle Kuen Suet Fung.
